The Lightning Jar’s Professional Events Series
Monthly events designed to promote leadership, learning, professional development, networking and building social and professional connections.
These events are a mix of social networking, learning and discussion, and will be held on the second Thursday of every month at The Lightning Jar.
This month's theme is Work-Life Balance, and we will screen two previously recorded TED talks on the topic, followed by open discussion and networking.
Social mixer starts at 6:00pm, the TED video screening begins at 6:30pm, followed by open discussion.
The Lightning Jar at VSECU, 194 North Street, Bennington.
Pizza, beer and wine will be provided.
This month’s TED features:
Nigel Marsh: How to Make Work-Life Balance Work
Work-life balance, says Nigel Marsh, is too important to be left in the hands of your employer. Marsh lays out an ideal day balanced between family time, personal time and productivity — and offers some stirring encouragement to make it happen.
Dan Thurmon: Off Balance On Purpose: The Future of Engagement and Work-Life Balance
Life patterns are constantly changing and evolving. In his TED Talk, Dan Thurmon explores how those patterns can be transcended by living off balance on purpose. Dan Thurmon is the author of two books, a renowned speaker, and a recognized expert in delivering peak performances -- on stage and in the workplace. As president of Motivation Works, Inc., he has worked with hundreds of clients and delivered thousands of presentations worldwide. Dan helps organizations and individuals implement actions plans and move confidently through transitions. Dan's philosophy can be summarized by the title of his book, Off Balance On Purpose. He believes that we will never achieve "perfect balance" and should, instead, learn to embrace uncertainty and initiate positive changes that lead to growth. Also, we should go beyond the pursuit of "success" and enhance our life experiences and professional endeavors with purposeful, positive contributions.
